Literature Review 1 (Draft 1) (G.K.Netraa)

Literature Review

Bipolar Mental Disorder is a manic depressive illness. It is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood.  Symptoms of bipolar mental disorder are dangerous such that it can even result in suicide. Bipolar mental disorder often starts in adult age. Although the symptoms are very dangerous, it is very difficult to spot it. It is long-term illness. Till now there are no cures for it. As said before, bipolar mental disorder causes unusual shifts in mood, people get very excited or extremely sad. Sometimes it is a mixture of both mania and depression. There are 4 kinds of bipolar mental disorder. They are Bipolar I Disorder, Bipolar II Disorder, Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified(BP-NOS) and Cyclothymic Disorder, or Cyclothymia.

According to Genetics, bipolar disorder tends to run in families. But genes are not the only factor of bipolar disorder, work tension and stress is also one of the main reasons for bipolar mental disorder. Bipolar mental disorder is usually diagnosed by physical examinations, an interview and lab tests.

Until now, there is no cure for bipolar mental disorder. A way to reduce it can be to gain control of their mood swings and related symptoms. A way to help a friend with bipolar mental disorder is to offer emotional support, understanding, talk to them and understand their feelings, make them think positive and make them to do positive things such as bringing them for a walk or other engaging activities and the most important thing is to not make them think of negative things since this leads to suicide.
